If you like trails that require a more advanced riding skill, this one is just the right choice. Take a ride through the villages of the Dobrinj area, scattered on the hilly eastern side of the island.

This MTB trail starts in Klimno, a small tourist village on the coast of the deeply cut Soline bay, and continues with a longer uphill ride to Dobrinj on old macadam and off-road paths, occasionally turning into very attractive single-tracks. Some sections of this trail are waymarked as ‘Camino Krk’ (a pilgrimage route around the island). A ride through abandoned villages and other important, yet undervalued traces of the past will be a nice mix of recreation and culture.
Dobrinj, a true museum in the open, will be your first stop. It boasts well-preserved medieval houses, many museums, churches, and historical buildings as well as konobas offering delicious local dishes. A forest path will take you further in the direction of Dolovo, an abandoned village first mentioned in 1780. It is nested in a tiny valley and the time just seems to stand still there. Some call this place an enchanted island forest, so we challenge you to check this claim. Take a walk through the village with the doors of empty houses wide open, and walls covered in ivy and moss, but be aware that they might collapse.
A dynamic section running through a forest will take you to the ruins of the Gradec Castle, hidden deep within and overlooking the valley where the Vretenica stream flows. It was the first estate of Krk’s noble family of Frankopan and the island’s most important military, political and administrative centre. It was abandoned in the late 15th century when the last count of Krk left the island.
A ride through the picturesque hamlets of Žestilac, Gornja Hlapa and Županje, offering a view of the karst peaks in the Vinodol Valley, will take you back to Klimno.
