A dynamic trail that will help you discover many stories about the only perennial stream on the Croatian islands
Although this circular trail may be rather short, it is nevertheless a great choice for cyclists who can tackle a moderately difficult ride. You can combine it with the trail that will take you to the Moon Plateau or the one on the other side, in the direction of Vrbnik.
There is a three-kilometre-long moderate climb right after the start, followed by a more relaxing macadam section with beautiful views of Velebit and the Crikvenica Riviera.
The second half of the trail will take you on a shorter, but more challenging downhill ride to the source of Vela Rika, the only perennial stream on the Croatian islands, of 12 kilometres in length. A narrow path will take you along Vela Rika that you will have to cross several times, with the roaring sound of one of its two waterfalls adding to this exciting experience.
There you will also see an impressive rock known as the ‘Old Lady’ (‘Baba’ in Croatian). Legend has it that, wandering around the island, St Jerome got thirsty. He hit the rock with a stick, and water gushed out. Another version says that you should kiss the rock when visiting Baška for the first time.
Cycling through a forest of centuries-old oak trees will take you back to your starting point, the Mošuna restaurant, where you can reward yourself with a local speciality.
