The fourth section of the Camino route passes through the northernmost part of the island, from Omišalj to Čižići. The viewpoints, gorgeous coastline and caves along this 21-kilometre-long section will leave you speechless.

Cobblestone streets, picturesque courtyards and churches, a water tower, and a castle make for only a small part of the town’s centuries-old cultural heritage. Explore lesser-known areas of Omišalj, breathe in fabulous smells of herbs and trees at Dubec Park and enjoy an impressive scenery: from the nearby viewpoint you will get to see Omišalj Bay, the coastal parts of Istria and the island of Cres, and the entire Kvarner Bay. A nice walk will take you from this green oasis to the coast, where the route continues north in the direction of Omišalj Campsite. When you reach the intersection for the airport, follow the main road and you will soon reach the Krk Bridge: two concrete arches connecting the island to the mainland since 1980. This spot offers a memorable view of the tiny rocky islet of Sveti Marko, located between Krk and the mainland. On the highest point of this islet you will see the ruins of a Venetian fortress, where soldiers once lived and kept a watchful eye on the pirate ships of the Uskoks from Senj. The route continues to Voz Cove, where a naval battle took place so it abounds in remains from the ancient times. From there you will walk along the north-eastern coast by the Vinodol Channel, where you will get to enjoy the intoxicating smell of immortelle from the nearby field, and other aromatic herbs. Soon you will reach Slivanjska Cove with one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island. Biserujka Cave, a true underground gem, is situated right above the cove. It is known for its beauty and a vast array of cave decorations: stalactites, stalagmites and calcite columns. Visit the cave and learn about the smugglers’ treasure hidden deep inside.

The trail then passes through a woody area by the hamlet of Rudine and brings you to Čižići. This small tourist village, surrounded by pine forests and nice beaches, is ideal to take a refreshment break and get yourself ready to hit the road again.
