Cerova – Veli Vrh Trail
Get to know the biodiversity of the forest in the immediate vicinity of Njivice by walking along the path that leads through the areas of Cerova and Veli Vrh. In the hinterland of these two peaks, there is a secluded and picturesque sub-Mediterranean forest, a walk through which is the perfect way to enjoy some time away from the crowds.
The distinctive forest here is characterised by downy oak, Turkey oak and Oriental hornbeam. The peak of Cerova owes its name to the Croatian word for Turkey oak – cer – which is abundantly represented in the deep deposits of reddish soil characteristic of this part of the island of Krk. On the nearby peak of Veli Vrh, which dominates the quay in Blatna Cove, there was a prehistoric hillfort, whose defensive dry stone wall is well-preserved.
This route functions as a recreational fitness trail with a dozen stations intended for outdoor exercise. We invite you to use your stay in Njivice to maintain your fitness and do some strength workouts because this destination offers much more than rest and relaxation.
