The Cyclamen Trail, taking you along the coast through rich forest landscapes to the archaeological site of Mohorov, provides an opportunity to relax, engage in recreational activities and learn about local history. Here you can enjoy the scents of the forest and wild flowers – especially in spring, when pink cyclamen are in full bloom.

Head north from the campsite in Njivice along the coastal path towards Blatna Cove. The coast here, with its many picturesque coves and cliffs, is enclosed by dense oak forest. Enjoy the peace and quiet offered by the view of the Kvarner Gulf’s crystal-clear sea.

From Blatna Cove there is a gentle ascent to the archaeological site of Mohorov. The locality is named after the early Christian saint Hermagoras, veneration of whom spread from Aquileia to Istria and Kvarner in the 5th and 6th centuries; nevertheless, it seems that the building here had a residential function. Numerous archaeological researches have revealed fragments of ceramics and amphorae, the production of which dates back to the period from the 5th to the 7th century. Particularly significant was the discovery of a gold coin of Emperor Theodosius II, from the imperial mints of Constantinople.

Moving through the wooded areas of Cerova and Veli Vrh, you will be delighted by the typical sub-Mediterranean forest characterised by huge, centuries-old downy oak and Turkey oak trees. After crossing to the east side of the main island road, continue along the winding paths towards the small church of St Quirinus and the largest natural lake on the island. Passing by a ranch for recreational and therapeutic horse riding, return to the campsite in Njivice.
