Once a small fishermen’s village, Njivice is today a tourism gem of the Golden Island of Krk. If you are craving some peace and quiet in pristine nature, relaxed walks are an ideal choice.
This trail is perfect for all generations. It starts in downtown Njivice, at the statue of a fisherman stitching up his fishing net, and leads north to a macadam path. Here you will enter the downy oak forest, whose lush undergrowth hides the remnants of Krk’s past. If you go further uphill, the trail will lead you to the Cerova peak, named after cer (Turkey oak), typical of the area. A wide macadam path will soon be replaced with a narrow roadway. The drystone walls (gromače) and the remains of sheepcotes (mošune) you will pass by testify to the importance of livestock breeding for the islanders, and show how widespread it was.

Take your time to enjoy the intoxicating scent of cyclamens (blooming in spring), listen to birdsong and admire playful roe deer and butterflies. Here you will come across the Mohorov site with remains from the Roman era, including those of the building named after saint Hermagoras and abandoned as early as late 8th century. The downhill trail will lead you to the former dock in Blatna Cove, where you will proceed on the narrow paths by the sea and picturesque coves. Just follow the natural shade of the thick forest by the sea, with trees arching over the sea surface in places, and you will get back to the centre of Njivice feeling all energised.
