Njivice was once a small fishing village, and today it is one of the best-known tourist locations on the Golden Island of Krk. If you want to enjoy peace, quiet and unspoilt nature, we invite you to indulge in the pleasant walks offered here. This route is intended for all generations. Head north from the centre of Njivice, taking the first turning onto a gravel path. Here you enter a downy oak forest, which conceals the remains of Krk’s past in its lush vegetation. The trail leads to the peak of Cerova, which was named after cer, the Croatian word for the Turkey oak species that grows here.

The wide gravel path soon narrows and leads past dry stone walls and the remnants of mošuna (dry stone shepherds’ shelters) that attest to the high intensity of animal husbandry on the island until recently. In addition to the intense scent of cyclamen in spring, here you can enjoy the birdsong and admire sightings of deer and butterflies, as well as archaeological remains from the Roman era, such as the archaeological site of Mohorov. The remains of a building named after Saint Hermagoras here bear witness to a settlement that was abandoned before the end of the 8th century. From Mohorov, the trail descends to the former quay in Blatna Cove and continues along narrow paths by the sea past picturesque coves. The dense forest here grows right down to the coast, with tree branches in places casting shadows on the surface of the sea. This shaded path will take you back to the centre of Njivice.

The Cerova Trail is ideal for nature and hiking lovers who want to explore the beauty of the island of Krk in an active way. It is suitable for walkers of all ages; the ideal time for walking is in spring and autumn when the temperatures are more pleasant, and nature presents itself in all its splendour.
