Jezero – shorter route

The trail leads around the lake, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy an easy circular walk not far from the centre of Njivice. The trail is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, especially for families with children, as well as elderly people looking for a leisurely walk in natural surroundings.

Starting in the campsite in Njivice, the route crosses the main island road and enters a genuine little natural oasis. Only a hundred metres from the Omišalj-Krk road is the largest natural freshwater habitat on the island of Krk. It is extremely important for the preservation of the biodiversity ​​of the island and the wider Kvarner region. Enjoy observing wetland and freshwater vegetation types, as well as bird and fish habitats: this area’s greatest natural assets.

Follow the path along the lake, listening to the chirping of birds and the croaking of frogs. Although the lake is located in a water protection zone with limited access, it is an ideal place for observing nature. Let your attention be drawn to the aquatic plants and songbirds that find their temporary home here, just as the lake has attracted visitors and researchers for the last hundred years.
